GLENVILLE STATE COLLEGE PRESIDENT DR. PETER B. BARR

Dr. Peter B. Barr is the twenty-third President of Glenville State College and officially took office on July 1, 2006. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year here. The past year has been one of the best years of my life," said Barr, who was sworn into office on Friday, November 10, 2006 during his inauguration ceremony in the GSC Fine Arts Auditorium. ‘Preserving and Responding’ was the theme of the inaugural festivities.

He says strengthening Glenville State College and encouraging students to give back to their communities are two of his many goals. Barr said, "We must train students for jobs, but, at the same time, educate them to make the world a better place to live." Barr is also focusing on increasing student enrollment, improving student retention rates, working with the GSC Foundation on a capital campaign, and working with local residents on boosting economic development in the area.

Barr came to Glenville State College from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, where he was the Provost and Senior Vice President serving as the school’s Chief Academic Officer. Barr not only contributed greatly to CCU but also to the entire Grand Strand area. He was recognized as the 2005 Myrtle Beach Volunteer of the Year.

Barr is a native of Huntington, West Virginia and a Marshall University graduate. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Marshall and a Doctor of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University. Barr and his wife, Betsy, have three grown children.

Barr was among more than 70 candidates for the position. He replaced former Glenville State College President, Robert Freeman, who retired on June 30, 2006.
