Glenville State College provides free
Educational Network (EdNet) connections for
students. To connect, students will need a
network card, sometimes referred to as a
NIC-10/100 Ethernet card, and a CAT5 patch
cable (this is a special cable to connect
the computer to the wall access plate) or a wireless network card (for wireless connection). If
students are using a modem card, it will not
connect to GSC's EdNet.
The minimum
requirements for room connections are an
Intel Pentium 2 266 MHz processor (or equivalent), such as AMD Athlon 1800+, with at least 40 GB of HD
storage and 256 MB of Memory, Windows 2000 and
a 10/100 NIC or wireless card. While PCs (Windows) are the
dominant type of computer at Glenville State, some people do use Apple
Macintoshes. If you are bringing a Macintosh
and intend to use it on EdNet, it must, at a
minimum, be capable of running Macintosh OS
8.0 and have a supported Ethernet adapter.
FOR SCOTT WING RESIDENTS ONLY: an 802.11g-compatible wireless card is required to connect to the EdNet system. Glenville State provides all residence hall students with Norton's Antivirus software at no cost.
