Glenville, WV – The Glenville State College Fine Arts Department Music Fest 2009 takes place October 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the GSC Fine Arts Center Auditorium. The annual event serves as a showcase of all music groups open to students on GSC campus. The night features performances from the GSC Music Department including the Jazz Band, Concert Band, Chamber Singers, Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Bluegrass Band, GSC Drum Line, and the GSC ‘Wall of Sound’ Marching Band.
“This concert features a very wide variety of music and is one of our most well-received concerts. Several middle school and high school groups from around the state will be attending making this a great time to recruit for the Glenville State College Fine Arts Department. I highly recommend this concert as it has something for everyone,” said Fine Arts Department Chairperson Lloyd E. Bone, Jr., who is also a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and the Director of the Marching and Concert Band.
Earlier that evening in the GSC Fine Arts Center Gallery an opening reception will be held for the ‘Seeing in Silver’ photography show by Braxton County resident Steve Balcourt. The reception begins at 5:00 p.m. and will close right before the Music Fest concert. Refreshments will be served, and gallery admission is free to public.
Costs for the 2009 Music Fest are as follows: $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for public school students and GSC faculty and staff, and free to all GSC Students. All proceeds of the evening benefit the Bertha Olsen Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund was established in 1980 in honor of Bertha E. Olsen Professor Emeritus, who was a music teacher for 42 years at GSC. This scholarship goes to a well-deserving GSC music major.
