Student Life
College students know it’s all about the details: where to live, where to park,
how to get to class, and what to do with free time. Spend a little time learning
about life on Glenville State’s campus.
Dear Student,
Learning to live in a community with people from all walks of life and all corners
of the globe can teach you a lot, and, what’s more, it can be fun! Learning occurs
all over the Glenville State campus - both inside and outside of the classroom. Glenville
State provides a broad variety of activities and programs to assist you in participating
in the Pioneer community, and in developing your skills and knowledge of leadership,
wellness service and diversity. We also provide many of the College’s co-curricular
programs and services.
You are now in charge of yourself and your time, but fellow students, faculty, staff,
and administrators are always there to lend friendship and support. By becoming a
member of the Pioneer campus community you are afforded the availability of a myriad
of outstanding services and activities, opportunities for sharing and personnel growth,
and the pursuit of knowledge that will give you the power to be successful. Take
the time to think about what is important to you, gather all the information you need
to make responsible, thoughtful choices, and then hold yourself accountable and on
task as you start an amazing journey through this chapter of your book of life called
college - Glenville State College.
Sincerely,
Jerry L. Burkhammer
Dean of Student Affairs
Glenville State College
Living on campus increases the chance that new students will achieve academic
and personal success. Several studies on the effects of residence hall living
have been conducted throughout the United States which demonstrate the importance
of living on campus. A summary of this research (Pascarella and Terenzini, 2005)
points toward the following positive effects of living in the residence halls during
one’s college years:
- Enhanced effort and involvement in academic, social, and extracurricular activities
- Greater personal growth and development
- Increased openness to diversity
- More involvement with other students, faculty, and the institution as a whole
- Increased satisfaction with the college experience
- Increased likelihood to persist in college and graduate
