Disability Services Overview

In accordance with provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Glenville State College will:

  • not deny any qualified person admission or the opportunity to participate in the College's programs or activities based solely on the fact that the person has a disability;
  • provide programs and services in an integrated setting, unless separate or different measures are necessary to ensure equal opportunity;
  • eliminate eligibility standards or rules that deny individuals with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in the services, programs, or activities unless "necessary" for the provision of the service, program, or activity;
  • ensure that any "necessary" eligibility standards or rules (e.g., those required to ensure the safe operation of the program in question) are not based on speculation, stereotypes, or generalizations about individuals with disabilities;
  • make reasonable accommodations in policies, practices, or procedures to provide equal access to persons with disabilities;
  • not place special charges on students with disabilities to cover the costs of reasonable accommodations necessary to ensure nondiscriminatory treatment;
  • explain in the College Catalog and Student Handbook the specific procedures students with disabilities should use to identify themselves and request accommodations
  • operate all programs so that when viewed in their entirety they are readily accessible to persons with disabilities.
