FEDERAL PELL GRANT PROGRAM - The Federal Pell Grant Program provides federal grants to undergraduate students on the basis of financial need. Eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant is established by completing the FAFSA.

Academic Competitiveness Grant
This federal grant is for first and second year full time students who have completed a rigorous high school program after January 1, 2005 and also eligible for Federal Pell Grant. Second year students must have a 3.0 college GPA.

National SMART Grant
This federal grant is for third and fourth year full time students enrolled in an eligible program - at Glenville State College those programs are Biology and Chemistry. Students must also be eligible to receive Federal Pell Grant and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

TEACH Grant
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education. This program provides up to $4000 per year to students who intend to teach a "high need subject" in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. This grant becomes a loan with interest accruing from the date of disbursement if students do not meet the specific conditions.

FEDERAL SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANT - A limited amount of this grant is awarded annually to students with exceptional financial need.

WEST VIRGINIA HIGHER EDUCATION GRANT - The WV Higher Education Grant is administered by the West Virginia Higher Education Grant Office in Charleston, West Virginia: www.hepc.wvnet.edu. This program pays 75 percent of tuition and fees for eligible full-time students who are West Virginia residents. Grades for freshman candidates for this grant should be submitted through the high school to the West Virginia Grant Program. After that, grades are transmitted electronically by the College. The FAFSA must be received by processors before March 1 to be considered for this grant. Students must be full time and meet academic progress goals to continue eligibility. First time applicants must also apply online at www.wvapply.com.

WEST VIRGINIA HIGHER EDUCATION ADULT PART-TIME STUDENT GRANT - The HEAPS Grant Program encourages and enables needy West Virginia students to continue their education on a part-time basis (1-11 hours) at the post-secondary level. Recipients will be selected from applications each year by the representative institutions of higher education based on the applicant’s eligibility and the availability of funds. HEAPS grants are eligible for renewal consideration. Requirements for a HEAPS grant include:

  • A completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • West Virginia residential status for the past 12 months.
  • Enrollment or accepted for enrollment in an associate or bachelor’s degree.
  • Maintain satisfactory progress.
